Our first backyard suite project in Collingwood was quite unique. Situated on a pie lot where the alley was at least 12 feet above the ground level of the main house, this design presented an immense opportunity to create something really special. Our client wanted to create a secondary income-generating suite; therefore, the design was made for complete separation from the house, with the two garage stalls dedicated to the primary residence and an exterior gravel parking pad for the suite above. Inside the garage, the homeowner installed a dog wash station, two central drains, and 12-foot-high ceilings to accommodate hydraulic lifts at some point in the future. After the suite was largely complete, our client began implementing a beautiful landscape design featuring tiered rock walls that create an incredibly stunning backyard.
Walking into the suite, you notice the high ceilings and the rounded stairway that leads up to the main living area. To your right is a low-ceiling dining room, and to the left, your main living room and kitchen area with vaulted ceilings. To your front is access to the spacious balcony that wraps around the top part of the suite. Two skylights in the kitchen provide ample natural light, and a third in the bathroom. The vaulted ceiling opens up the space, and is also included throughout the suite in the bedroom and den. With ample windows, this suite is a dream come true for renters looking to enjoy an inner city lifestyle in a new construction and stand-alone structure.
